Talk to Me!

Let's hear what you have to say about THE HOLY MOUNTAIN. Send us an email at info@dallascinemania.com or comment on this post. There's been a lot of chatter about what the movie means and doesn't mean and the difference between an original print vs. a digitally restored version (for the record, this print of THE HOLY MOUNTAIN was most definitely sourced from digital elements).

I think THM is one of the most fascinating movies ever. But I think an IB Tech print from the mid-'50s is even better. Whaddaya know?

Thanks to everyone for showing up at The Angelika, Aerin and Alex B. and thanks to the Angelika staff (esp Kate) for coming to the table with their mad skillz.

Yeah. Sorry! We'll be more diligent next time (hey, I didn't know anybody read this blog!).

That was a weird crowd (I guess that screening is going to pull a weird crowd). Does everyone who respects Jodorowsky automatically despise Steven Speilberg? The people I knew there do, and they were DELIGHTED by the Poltergeist trailer. Did you program the trailers or did they come with the print? Great touch either way. We were in the elevator with your girlfriend afterwards, who said, "Thank you for coming to my boyfriend's film." For a split second we thought she meant Jodorowsky. Hilarious.

Weird crowd?? I suppose. I think the crowd waiting for six hours to get into TWILIGHT was even weirder...

I am glad I got to sit next to some people who had never seen the film before. It was a hoot to see their reaction.

All the trailers are from my personal collection. There is no rhyme or reason, I just throw them up there. I don't hate Spielberg. I think he's capable of being a great director. See the SUGARLAND EXPRESS. I just think he's a tad overrated.

The "weirdest" thing about the crowd was the fact that there are enough people in Dallas willing to watch a Jodorowsky movie to fill a (smallish) auditorium. This must be what it's like to live in Austin. I don't know what you did to get that many butts in seats (are they all friends or yours?)) but kudos. I'll be there for Dogs & Feast & whatever else you're planning.

I would take "original print" to mean the physical celluloid object. The thing that gets sent to hundreds of theaters in multiple cans. But there is apparently confusion on this (I'm no expert). Don't know if anyone on here goes to The Inwood's midnight screenings but they keep saying they're going to show the 'original print' of Close Encounters(hey a Spielberg mention!)and I really, really hope they mean 'original VERSION' - i.e. the pre-'Special Edition 1980' cut that came out in 1977. I'm not looking forward to spending $10 on seeing a faded, scratched, spliced 31-year-old print.

Yeah. It's a tough call. Some folks actually like faded, scratchy prints. Sometimes the only print available is faded and badly beaten up. I don't like it that way but I'm not against a little wear and color shift if the movie is good enough or rare enough. I'll bet dollars to donuts that that CE3K print is gonna look pretty worn and/or pinkish. We'll see.

Thanks, Aaron! Yeah, I'm looking forward to BLOOD FEAST as well. It's not as "wacky" as GRUESOME TWOSOME -- but HG Lewis is one of those rare filmmakers whose work actually deteriorated over the course of his career, so BF is actually probably a better film. I can guarantee laughs a plenty. See ya there.
