ONE EYED JACKS - APRIL 23, 2009

Dallas Cinemania will be screening Marlon Brando's ONE-EYED JACKS on April 23, 2009 at 8pm at the Angelika Film Center. We're excited to screen a very, very special 35mm Technicolor print of this unique and pivotal western -- the only movie ever directed by Brando, who took over from original helmer Stanley Kubrick. Kubrick fans will notice a lot of the director's hallmarks in this epic tale of love and revenge. Tickets will run $10 and look forward to some special surprises.

To anybody debating whether or not they should go, consider this: "Jacks" is not currently available on DVD in a proper version. Due to copyright problems, it ended up in the public domain so any fly-by-night company with a print (no matter how bad the condition or un-letterboxed) can put it on the market. So this screening may be your first/last/only chance to see it as it was meant to be seen. Also, besides the Kubrick connection, Sam Peckinpah contributed to the screenplay. An important (and weird) western that probably not many fans under 40 have seen. Danny Peary discusses it in 'Cult Movies 3'. I haven't seen it in 15 years (remember when AMC was good?) - can't wait!
